Ngunnawal, ACT: Multi-Functional Garage Conversion
This project in Ngunnawal, ACT, focused on transforming an underutilised single-car garage into a highly functional, multi-purpose space tailored for a family of four.
The core construction involved the structural division of the garage into two distinct zones
by installing a new wall and doorway.
- Dedicated Storage Zone:
The section facing the street, retaining the existing roller door access, was converted into a secure, purpose-built storage area.
- Flexible Living Space:
The section adjoining the house was meticulously converted to integrate seamlessly with the main home's design. This involved installing a new floor, lining and insulating the walls,
and a added skylight for natural light flowing to the new space, and applying finishes to create a cohesive, comfortable interior.
The result is a versatile room that serves multiple needs: it functions as a dedicated home office/study space
for both parents during the week and becomes a much-loved hangout and gaming room
for the children and their friends on weekends. This conversion demonstrates how thoughtful structural changes can significantly enhance a small family home's functionality and value.
